Good post. I have my right handed views but try to steer clear from any public debate. I get too mad. lol… isn’t that typical? I’m not much of a commentator but I do read a lot. I read here quite a bit but try to lay-low. You know, everything is “political” in it’s own little way. Shoot, going to one of my family member’s birthday party is “political” … so I’ve been told.

Oddly enough, people do seem to be more respectful (and fair minded) around BC than any other place I’ve hung my hat.

I think people are are much more respectful and tolerant of other people’s opinions here (for the most part) than in many other forums I’ve seen.

Good post, Anok, and I hear you. My own experience looks a little different, since this was and remains my first major mainstream (as opposed to academic) forum experience. Sure, there’s reason, and a fair amount of manners, but I’ve also found myself leaving threads that made me question the sanity of humankind, or at least the bloggers on the thread. When it gets to be no fun, though, I log out so as to stop myself from replying. Sometimes we just have to let the internet be wrong, and there are a lot of bloggers who are very, very wrong. If I see one more thread that claims global warming is a hoax, Rev. Wright is on the Republican payroll, or the New World Order is planting chips in our brains, well . . . Never mind. I think you know what I mean.

Politics ARE everywhere. I tend to stay away from the political threads here at BC, but I admit to reading them. Amazing what you learn by listening (or is it reading??)

The thing is that, typically, it seems as though the viewpoints of most members on BlogCatalog are just as spread out as any other online forum but the people here are typically more understanding. I think that has a lot to do with the mentality of a blogger in general, there is something to be said about the personality type of someone who takes the time to write a blog of their own.
