This Texan is interesting, smart, educated, a family man, a preacher and teacher, plus he lectures to companies and civic organizations. He works with figures, he helps figure out how to guide his children, and he offers us good advice about getting by in the real world. His blog “Josh’s Blog” gives us a sweeping view of how he sees the world, loves his wife and kids, and yet has time to try and show everyone reading helpful ways to improve their lives. He is opinionated, soft-spoken and inspirational. He’s Josh Wood.
Me: In your about section, you say that the primary category for your blog is more than likely as a “Dad Blogger”. When did you write the About Section, and are there things in there that you have a different perspective on today than when you first wrote it? You do have an interesting page dedicated to the one-year anniversary of your blog where you go into more depth about why you decided to write your blog. Do you have any different perspectives to share today about blogging and perhaps an anecdote about how blogging has impacted your life?

Me: As the owner and blogger behind the As Seen on TV site you clearly are dedicated beyond belief to your website and your online business. Would you mind sharing how you got into the internet business and now into blogging?
What's it Take? "As Seen on TV"
As Seen on TV: Way back when I was first introduced to the World Wide Web, I was intrigued by websites and wanted to learn how to build my own. I took a college certificate program for web design. Once I learned the basics I started creating my own websites. I continued to learn and do my best to make sure I stay up to date on coding, scripts and blogging platforms. The internet since its beginning has evolved rapidly; it is very easy to get left behind.
Me: Everyday I hear complaints about blogs not making money, or how do I make money with my blog. I am obviously not privy to how well you do with your AsSeenOnTv blog, though you clearly are a trailblazer in how you use the web to make a living. Can you share more specifics about . . . → Read More: “As Seen on TV” Shares with BC bloggers what it takes to make money blogging!

Rose and the City
Me: Your blog’s name is Rose and the City. I read some Shakespeare and a quote I remember is a “rose by any other name would smell as sweet.” Is that true when it comes to you?
Rose: I just wrote a post about names the other day, titled “What’s In A Name?” I believe that names have a lot to do with who we become. I think being given the name of an old lady and the chick from Titanic helped shape who I am, and helped bless me with a catchy blog title. “Agatha And The City” doesn’t quite have the same appeal.
Me: It certainly doesn’t. Your first blog post titled I Have Arrived was written on July 19th 2008. That’s a day I bet you remember extremely well. Can you describe what you were doing and feeling like then?
Rose: Wow, you have done your homework! Yes, That is the day that I left my home in Minnesota, after the end of a tumultuous three-year relationship with an alcoholic ex-boyfriend, and decided I needed a . . . → Read More: Witty, Sarcastic and Fun, “Rose And The City” brings it.

ME: You are the author of a relatively new blog called Seattle to San Francisco, a social media lover, tech nerd and political junkie. What came first the political junkie part of you or the social media and tech part?
Brandi Cole
BRANDI: I think the tech part of me came first. I had always been interested in computers/tech even in high school. I actually wanted to be a web designer at first, but decided I liked being on the business end rather than the technical end. I had been interested in politics since I was younger too, I think as an influence from my dad who, much to my dismay, was a staunch Reganite when he was my age. The University I went to is very liberal, so of course I was surrounded by a bunch of people who thought just like me. It was actually when I started dating a Ron Paul libertarian that I really got interested in defending my political views and reaching out beyond the normal party line talking points.
ME: Starting in Fall you will be a grad student at Hult International Business School in San Francisco. Hult is one of . . . → Read More: Q&A with Brandi Cole the Social Media Love, Tech Nerd & Author of “Seattle to San Francisco”

“All failures in leadership are due to a lack of courage” - Keith Cunningham
Anytime someone says, ’trust me’ the hairs stand up on the back on my neck. I have never understood why someone would have to say ‘trust me’ because I believe its in our makeup as humans to trust others unless of course we are untrustworthy ourself.
Advertising doesn’t work because there is far too much noise and we are all expert consumers. We can smell a stupid ad before we have even seen or read it. The amazing thing is how much money Madison Avenue advertising firms are still making selling their clients digital advertising along with a bundle of “social media services.” Most of these sales people are “self-proclaimed” experts because they have the money and the brand name to get placed on prestigious panels to hypothesize about what corporations should be doing with their advertising dollar. I suggest you hold onto it until you understand what to do with it. Do executives not realize that advertising is dead?
Consumers have flipped it over and stomped on its ugly head. If your product doesn’t have value . . . → Read More: I dislike advertising with a passion #fail #RatedR

“Blogs are meant to be helpful, entertaining and personal. Write your blog like you are speaking to a single reader and express yourself informally, giving your personal opinions as well as your professional ideas.” ~ Marc, Standard Marketing, Report on Tips for Writing Your Blog
Me: Marc the number of blogs we see that come straight out of corporate manuals or printed materials amazes me. That’s why I love the quote from your ebook about how to blog and seo where you discuss the importance of sharing your stories, where you recommend that when you write talk about problems that customers may have and write blog posts as if you are speaking to another human being. It is so easy yet so challenging for many businesses to execute on this. Perhaps the why isn’t as important as what can be done to enable corporations to make the necessary changes.
Marc: Yes it is a big challenge for many corporations. They find it frightening or sometimes somewhat anti-corporate to engage in a genuine online conversation. The shame is that for so many corporations the way Google works companies would do . . . → Read More: A Q&A with Marc Joffe on How to Kick SEO *& Using Your Blog to Transform your Business and Online Traffic
