After taking a minute to read her blog The Joyful Christian Wife—actually, after taking just a second to glance at her BlogCatalog profile—it quickly becomes apparent that Marlo Boux is a woman who is passionate about her faith and is devoted to God. It is not surprising, therefore, to learn that for her Easter is not a day focused on cute little bunnies and baskets full of chocolate, but rather on family and on God.
“[That’s] all I need is 10 lbs of Cadbury crème eggs lying around the house!” she exclaims. “Easter holds a great deal of importance and has special meaning to [our family]. As a Christian this holiday commemorates the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ. Easter signifies love, grace and second chances.”
Because of the significance Easter holds for Marlo, it is a time for her to bring the family together, go to church, and explore the meaning of this important day. “On Easter Sunday we go to church and come home for brunch,” she explains. “Then each child is given a gift. We tie it in by explaining how God gave us the free gift of salvation.” The focus is not all on what God has given them, however. Their focus is also cast on “loving God,” and “loving other people in a tangible and practical way.”
It would be naïve to think that for Marlo this type of devotion to God only bubbles up on important holidays. On the contrary, her days are filled with finding ways to incorporate faith and devotion into her life. Her faith is the principle subject of her blog—although family life and many other subjects are discussed also—and her studies as well as her radio features explore the subject too.
Marlo is a multi-talented woman who, from the outside, appears to seamlessly blend the roles of mother, author, radio show host, and student. She first started blogging about moms in business back in 2005 as a way to connect with people and market her website. Now, she says she blogs, “more for fun” and to “encourage other women who share common struggles as wives, mothers, and everything in between.”
A self-professed bookworm, Marlo is constantly reading. The books she reads and the thoughts they inspire are regularly explored on her blog. “I have a never ending stream of ideas because I read so much,” she says. Yet, she is a whiz at taking this constant stream of thoughts and whittling them down into clear, focused posts that end up reading like a conversation with a good friend.
This conversational style can be attributed to the fact that “writing in a way that is meaningful, transparent, and sensitive is something at the forefront of [her] mind at all times.” She explains that she “would never want to come across as ‘having it all together’ or as a person that the reader has a hard time relating to.”
Her gift of easily relating to people is surely a reason for her success on the radio too. Speaking about the show GodTalk, on which she is a Feature Contributor, she states that her favorite part of doing the show is getting feedback and talking to the callers. “My favorite part is the emails, tweets and phone calls we get from the listeners. I love the interaction and I enjoy giving people a safe space to share their thoughts on God,” she states.
